It’s your first class at the studio…

With the opening of the new studio, everyone will be a new client whether you have done Pilates before or are just interested in starting out, so everyone is in the same boat. It is natural to feel a nervous anticipation before you get here for the first time. You may not know anything about Pilates and wonder what will happen in that first session or you may know a lot about Pilates and want to see what your session will be like at this studio. Everyone is welcome and I can’t wait to meet all of you. I love people, I love Pilates and I am extremely excited to be starting out this Studio – an absolute dream of mine and I am looking forward to sharing the journey with you.

So what will we do in our first class?

I offer a complimentary first class which means there is nothing to lose! I want you to come in and try it out and see if you like Pilates, the studio and me. This first class will take away that nervous anticipation and make you excited about going forward. You will get a feel for everything, see how it works and get a great workout!

After a few minutes of discussing the important information regarding your history, your daily habits, injuries if you have them, your goals and any other information you think is relevant we will do an assessment and proceed to a workout (the awesome part) introducing you to the techniques and concepts of Pilates. Then you will really be able to see what Pilates is like and how it feels to do a Pilates workout. You will also get a chance to see and use some of the different pieces of equipment and accessories – they do all look a bit strange the first time you see them and they really are amazing machines and props.

The workout will cover some basic exercises that I will use to make further assessments so that I can design a programme specifically suited to your needs for our future sessions and the basic exercises will give you a chance to understand the new techniques and concepts that I introduce you to. It will be a total body workout which will leave you feeling energized, refreshed and more aligned. We will begin by learning some breathing techniques, learning about your core and how to activate it correctly and learning about correct alignment. You may feel a bit overwhelmed initially with all this information but as you learn more about the concepts, techniques and exercises what seemed like a lot of co-ordination in your first session will become almost second nature in your future classes. And don’t worry, no-one is perfect at Pilates – it is a life-long learning and we are all striving towards that goal of being better, stronger, fitter versions of ourselves.

How will I feel after class?

After your class, you may or may not feel stiff, every body reacts differently. Your first class is a more gentle workout than you would get in your future classes so you may feel disheartened if you are the kind of person who loves to feel stiff after a workout. But don’t be – once you have the programme that is suited to your needs and your body, you will definitely experience those moments where you know you have done something! Pilates is not always about feeling the burn and feeling stiff afterwards – it is about the quality of the movement and strengthening your muscles from the inside out, which takes practice and time and I can honestly say that if you are dedicated to your practice you will see the results. As Joseph Pilates said “In 10 sessions you will feel the difference. In 20, you will see the difference. And in 30, you’ll be on your way to having a whole new body.”

Sounds great, I want to book what do I need to do?
